Does anyone know the name of the tune from the Vision On Gallery?

by Vicki F | Posted in Other - Entertainment

This align has been haunting me since we were kids. They used to play it over the Gallery on the old BBC TV show Envisioning On. It's a gentle piece of vibraphone and guitar, it lopes along at a merciful pace and doesn't really go anywhere, but I love it!

It's called 'Leftbank 2' by the Pierce Gambit Trio.

They used 'Cavatina' by John Williams later in the series, but the one you have described is 'Leftbank 2'.

You can understand it here:

'From the library of ...': the artistry of bookplates

There's something exhaustive and slightly thrilling about opening a book and finding a bookplate pasted centre the cover. These small prints give us a glimpse of the owner through an illustration of the proprietor's name or identifying symbols.

Bookplates often include the words "Ex Libris,"a word-group that denotes "from the books," but has come to mean "from the library of" and is also another name for the bookplate itself. Riding a wigwag of nostalgia, bookplates are currently highly collectible as stand-alone prints that are enjoyed unreservedly apart from the books in which they were originally meant to live.

Lining the back walls of the Davidson Galleries is a motionless but fantastically rich exhibition of antique and contemporary bookplates that take you into little worlds of identity, pleasure, or warning. Shayla Alarie, boss of the gallery's antique print department, and Cara Forrier, leader of contemporary prints and drawings, have pulled together over 200 Ex Libris from particular collections and their own inventory (about 100 are hanging on the walls, with the rest in portfolios that can be perused).
