Will de-tuning my guitar to standard D warp the neck?

I was told that the reduced compression of the strings against the fretboard would cause the neck to go convex.

However I was advised that this could be countered by modifying my guitar with impenetrable gauge strings.

No, that miserly of a change will not hurt the neck. The guitar strings are engineered for one whole not fitting for up or down tuning.
