They were racing, the driver was almost three times the kid juice limit, and the car was unsafe.

Three teenage boys were killed when the car they were in ploughed into a brick up in Leven St, Invercargill, at more than 140kmh in July, an inquest was told yesterday.

Jesse William Langeveld, Tylar James Parry and Ethan James Glimpse died on July 3, after Mr Langeveld's strongly modified Honda Civic smashed into a try at Powerstore in Leven St.

Mr Langeveld was driving. The other two, along with survivor Shawn Francis Milne, were passengers.

More than 40 people were chock-full into the courtroom during the day-extensive inquest, many of them friends and family of the teens killed.

Witnesses yesterday recounted the events paramount up to the smash.

While Mr Milne, the individual survivor, said he could not recall the failure, other witnesses said they saw Mr Langeveld's purple car skidding across the avenue into a carpark before slamming into the lose everything.

The coppers said the car was touring about 144kmh.
